I had one. I was asleep though. They went in through my artery in my neck, much less painful then putting a needle in though my side. The recovery was fine, not much pain. It was pretty simple. I was all worked up worrying about it though. That was the hard part. The actual procedure wasn't hard. If given the choice, have them go through the artery in your neck. Otherwise they have to go through ribs and muscle and all that. It sounds scary because of where the artery goes and all, but all in all, it's not.
