  • No, canned veggies are NOT as good as fresh, but if that is all you can afford, at least you're giving baby something that isn't cookies! :-)

  • NOTHING compares to fresh food! However, can veggies are not horrible. I would get the ones that are low sodium. Can/Frozen foods are high in sodium (salt), with anything in life too much of something is a "bad" thing. So we try our best to get low sodium can goods. The same can be said for can fruits. Although with fruit it's the sugar. I personally I try to get the cans that have the fruit packed in light syrup or water. It's hard to find cans with no syrup, at least in my neck of the woods it is.

  • They're really not. They have been processed with a lot of salt & other things. However, they are better than no veggies at all & if it's all you can afford, go for the low sodium or sodium free. Look at the frozen veggies, they are usually a little more than the canned, but if you get them when they're on sale, they can actually be cheaper. Try to get fresh veggies when they are on sale as often as possible.

  • Frozen is better. Just read the package on frozen food. It should have nothing but the veggie listed -- no salt, no additives, no butter. Canned veggies are often loaded with salt and overcooked unless you can them yourself.

Buy fresh when you can when it is in season, they are usually cheaper then and a small baby or toddler eats so little it is worth the investment in the fresh whenever you can. If you buy the precut they will be more expensive. Fresh food is cheaper when it is loose and not packaged. I used to buy mark down produce all the time -- nothing wrong with them other than being less than perfect or bruised from shipping.

  • Fresh is best, then frozen, then canned.

  • No they're not. Fresh & frozen are pretty equal, and canned aren't nearly as good. Hit up your local farmers markets too - usually cheaper and a lot better than grocery stores!

  • No, as a matter of fact they are a last resort. Fresh, then frozen the canned.

  • Frozen can actually be better than fresh. Fruits and vegetables start losing nutrients the instant that they are picking; freeze slows the process.

    Canned are the least nutritious

  • NO! If you can't get fresh, then get frozen.
