Do you let your toddler eat a cookie or snack?

I know little ones should not have too many sweets but do you think a cookie here and there is bad? Or icecream once in a while?

  • I agree with "everything in moderation" The more it's forbidden, the more they will want it and they will get it when they are older at school or friends' houses, etc.
You can make your own cookies with less sugar, or whole wheat flour if you are too concerned about them not being "healthy" enough, but a cookie here & there, or even ice cream or candy after dinner isn't going to hurt.

  • no i dont think its bad at all! i just gave my son a cookie yesterday for a snack, and my dad and stepmom are always wanting to give him ice cream when we go to visit. i give him things like that on special occasions, like holidays & birthdays, or i try to limit to 1-3 or so times a week.

  • Honestly, with my first child (who is 10 yrs old now) I didn't let him have a sweet thing until he was like 3 years old. I tried to do everything "right" with him, lol.
9 years later..I have my daughter..(who is 15 months now). With her, I am more laid back about stuff like that. I let her have little snacks here and there. Animal crackers are her current favorite. She likes to share an icecream cone with either myself or her daddy. She eats cheese twisties now and then...she LOVES those. If I let her, she'd eat them for bfast, lunch and dinner, lol.

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as you are not constantly feeding him those things. Try arrowroot cookies. They are still sweet, but have less sugar and junk in them.

  • I make my toddler cookies sometimes. I'm not a huge fan of processed food, but some homemade cookies make her happy

  • We're pretty free with the sweets around here, honestly... And my kids will choose fruits and veg over sweets most of the time. :) There's nothing wrong with a treat. My DS2 would be LOST without ice cream every evening.
