All thinned out & 2cm - meaning?

I am 2 days away from my due date and just got back from the OBGYN. He said my cervix was pretty thinned out & thinned it a little more. He also said I was already 2cm dialated. Can't you be 2cm for awhile before going into labor though?

Does any of this mean labor might be coming soon?
Also feeling a little crampy...

  • Some women stay 2cm dilated for a couple weeks, some just hours.

  • I stayed 2 cms dilated for about 3 weeks. I ended up having my membranes "stripped" at 40 weeks and 3 days, and went into labor a couple of hours later! Good luck!!

  • I was reading that a woman begins"labor" upto 20 days before active labor so if I were you I would just keep an eye on things espcially if you have lost your mucus pulg

  • I don't understand how he thinned out your cervix more...a doctor can't do that, they can strip you but that doesn't mean your thinned more. I am 3 cm's and lost my mucus plug also having contractions sporatically yet nothing yet and this is my 5th. It can mean a lot or it can mean nothing. Stay active and move around as much as you can to help keep gravity on your side. Good luck to you.
