Why am I getting my period so late?

I have had protected sex one time this month, yet it's been over 5 weeks since I got my last period. I am continually having later and later periods, why is this happening to me? Could I be pregnant?

  • not if you're continuing to have later & later ones. could be your hormones changing, could be stress, diet, changes in exercise, sleep, stress..... have you taken a test yet? why not?

  • Yes, of course you can be. I was on the pill and just found out that I'm 6 weeks.... guess im a statistic! Do you have any symptoms (sore breasts, tired, headaches, ect)?

  • I haven't taken a test yet, but am planning to.
I'm not abnormally tired, I'm usually somewhat exhausted. I don't have sore breasts, or headaches :/

  • Thanks! So I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative, so I'm just planning on seeing a doctor soon to diagnose why I'm getting such late periods. Thanks for your help ladies :)

  • When your period comes is completely dependant on when you ovulate. Don't waste your doctor's time. Pick up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. You'll never have a "late" period again, because you'll know when you ovulate and you'll know when your period is REALLY due. You'll aslo never have to buy a pregnancy test again because once you reach 18 days past ovulation, you'll know you're pregnant. My cycles vary from 27-40 days and I probably would have spent a fortune on pregnancy tests in the past year if I weren't charting. For an overview, you can go to my page and read my journal "Get to Know Yourself".
