  • The thing I've heard the most is 12 if there are airbags. And, if you have more kids in the car than you do seat belts in the back, then the biggest/oldest kid is the one who can sit in the front, assuming none of them are in a rear facing seat.

  • It varies too from state to state. In ohio it is 12 years old no matter what weight is. Children need to be in booster seats in Ohio until 8 years old or 80 pounds.

  • I think my state is 14 years AND 80 lbs...I know our airbags shut off if there's someone/something under a certain weight in the front seat (40 lbs?).

  • I am always being paranoid about the air bags up front and I told my kids they could only sit up front when they got as tall or taller than me -because then they were definately out of a booster/child seat whatever by that time. And w/ my youngest he's gotten taller than me since kindergarden so I set the weight limit at 100 pounds before he could sit up front.

  • In our state it's 12. I'm not sure if there's a weight restriction also, but my son weighed 103 and was taller than me when he turned 12, so it wasn't an issue.

  • It depends on the state.

  • In Maryland it is 12 (or over 5'4" AND 100 lbs).  Our DD was in the front seat by age 10.  She is NOW 12 and is 5'10,5" tall and 140 lbs!  (Out of her rear facing car seat by 9 months, out of convertible car seat by 3, out of booster seat by 6.5 years.)  She's ALWAYS been a BIG GIRL!

  • car manufactures manual says recommended after age 12. I havent read any state laws in the states I have lived in that has a required age, but it has been a few years since I have looked. since I mostly do in town driving and not that often I will usually let one of my kids sit up front- 6, 9 and almost 12yrs.
