  • Well is there a friend you can ask to do laundry at their house for a trade off- you stay and watch their children (do your laundry) while she can go out, or you pay her some money to use the water (still will be less expensive than $14)?

Well if your boyfriend hears from a collection agency it is probably in the mail that would have the prices on what he owes. Is his desk a mess? Maybe you can help or encourage him to go through the paperwork and get an idea of what he owes that way, maybe do a free debt consolidation payment. Maybe you can do laundry at his place and help him with the budget as a trade off :)

  • Are your finances tied to his? If so you won't be able to save anything. If not, keep them that way. Try washing laundry in the machine and drying it inside the apartment on a drying rack or on hangers from a rod (the kind that attaches within a doorway). If laundry really is a cost problem and you're determined to save, wash your clothes by hand in your tub. My sister did that when she earned very little. $14 is nothing to sneeze at. Other places to save are food and clothes. I don't know what your income is but if you have any extras, cut them out. Cable, cell phone, cigarettes. Everything that isn't food, clothes or shelter. Unplug your appliances when not in use, except for the fridge, even if they're not on they draw electricity and it costs you more. If you pay for utilities keep your place warmer in summer and cooler in winter. Take shorter showers. All these add up.
