Do purple onions always turn kindly green when grilled?

Okay, so I know they are red onions, but come on they are purple. But I have never seen them green before and we are grilling out and they have a kinda green tint to them. Is this normal?

  • I have noticed they change color depending on how long you cook them for. Regular whit or yellow onions become transparent when they are completely cooked, while red ones don't go translucent, they go somewhere in between yellow and green. No worries, I bet they tasted just fine!
