Asthma

My son was just diagnosed with asthma, his ped put him on polmicort once daily and albuterol as needed. Well the polmicort is a steriod, should I be worried about changes in his behavior? He has been on it since Wednesday, and the past two days he has been eating a lot! Is that due to the steriod or maybe a growth spert? Any advice???

  • My daughter gets put on steroids every single time she gets sick because of breathing problems. They havent diagnosed her with asthma yet...but every time she gets on the steroids, she does get really cranky. But not usually the hunger. Its probably a growth spurt? :)

  • I would think it is just a growth spurt. My son is on steroids and has never been cranky or had more hunger. It could be that he can actually breath and just has more energy to do things. I know that when I can breath after taking my inhalers, I do have more energy but it's because I can breath without it hurting.

  • I have not had any problems with them eating more or acting differently due to the meds. I would say hes just hungry.

  • My son is on pulmicort and hasn't had any issues. Only "issues" I have ever heard is maybe a change in behavior.
