I have 3 kids 1 girl 2 boys would it be illegal to rent a 2 bedroom apt??

We are having difficulty making our rent every month we now live in a 3 bed 2 bath duplex we pay $900 per month. Here in Utah County there is nothing with 3 beds below $900-1000 but there are some 2 bed places for $600-700 why 3 beds is so much more is beyond me. But I found a place with 2 large beds and 1 bath but what I wanna know is would that be illegal?

  • Why would it be illegal? Here in Texas, there are several families sharing a 3 bed 2 bath house. You can only do what you can do.

  • it depends entirely on your local city ordinance.... every town has different #'s

in theory, though it should be fine. A girls room and a boys room?

  • Depends on the state and the age of your children.

  • It is actually something you need to ask your landlord or potential landlord. We rent privately and don't have a problem with a 3 bedroom with 3 girls and soon to be 2 boys, but the 3 bedroom we did live in accepted government assistance so they had occupancy rules of 2 people per bedroom so we had to move. It wasn't so much the gender of the children as it was the number.

  • Technically boys and girls can't share rooms, but if the authorities don't know about it,then no ones the wiser.

  • You need to check your state. Here in PA any child over the age of 6 is not permitted to share a room with opposite sex siblings and step siblings are not permitted to share rooms at all... Although it happens, it's not actually allowed...

  • I assume you want to have one room for you and DH and one for the kids?

Depends on age and state/city as others have stated. Look it up for your local county.
