  • It's a religion. I don't know tons about it but one thing I have learned is they don't require any dues or donations - of course like all organized religions they ask for them.

  • L. Ron Hubbard admitted as much when he commented to a friend that writing fiction for 10 cents a word was chump change. And that if a man REALLY wanted to make lots of money he'd start a religion. Which is exactly what Hubbard did. And the book of Dianetics is his most profitable piece of fiction, even today.

  • Of course it's a scam for your money. It was "invented" by a science fiction author, and you have to pay money to have your body rid of "thetans" - essentially aliens that have attached themselves to your body.

    C'mon.

  • From "http://www.scientology.org/faq/church-funding.html"

Churches of Scientology are supported by their members, just like every other church. In the Church of Scientology, parishioners are asked to make fixed donations to participate in auditing and training services they wish to receive.

Unlike many other faiths, no weekly donations are required, nor are there tithes. Churches of Scientology hold weekly congregational services for which no donation is required or requested. These are analogous to congregational services of other faiths and in addition to Sunday Services, they further include Friday night Graduations, as well as Church ceremonies—weddings, namings and memorial services.
