When did you start feeding your baby solids?

I'm a little annoyed that my MIL is starting this bs routine on me again, by saying that "my son was eating mashed potatoes and gravy when he was just 8 weeks old." Fabulous. My son and daughter did/will not...

But! That's not what I'm talking about. Baby cereals, and pureed foods. I've heard different things from pediatricians and a lady I know who works at the WIC office.

How old were they when you completely took them off formula?

  • They need formula or Breast milk until at least one. I would suggest skipping "baby" puree' and waiting until your child is old enough to sit up and pick up and eat bites or real food, like avocado, bakes sweet potatoes...

  • Breastmilk or formula they have to have till one. My son is 11.5 months and is still on formula. Not too much longer after hes one though. I started purees at 4 months per my dr and some soft table foods likes potato, avacado, babana, bread etc at 6 and he switched to all table food at 7 cause he wouldnt eat baby food anymore :)

  • We started solids at 7 months with mashed avocado. We skipped the cereal and only did jarred foods when we went out to eat. Otherwise she ate pureed foods that we prepared at home. She's 10 months and is now eating more table foods, though we do eat spicy food a lot so I will still sometimes cook her some veggies that are separate from our meals. She is breastfed and I will continue to nurse her to at least 1 year. We will most likely go longer, but she will definitely not be on only solids until after a year.

  • 71/2 months table foods of fruit and veggie. no puree unless normally soft or made that way. no yucky cereal or jar food. Will keep nursing a year and beyond.
