Can a baby born 4 - 41/2 monthes eary survive?

  • Yes indeed my cousin had a baby who was exacty 4.5 months early and wieghed 1.3 onces and is doing well today he is now one.

  • Yes, but there may be long term health issues, as well as a long NICU stay after the birth. My sone was born 6 weeks early and spent 2 weeks in the NICU, I can't imagine how long the stay would be for a micro-preemie.

  • My cousin baby stayed until he was 4.5 months old that was the minimum time they allowed him to be released he was doing fine but they kept him until his actual due date.

  • My last baby was born at 23 weeks. She weighed 1.5 lbs & was 13in. & spent 2 1/2 mos in the NICU. She came home healthy weighing 3lbs & today, almost 4 yrs later, she's perfect.

  • my BILs niece was born at 17 weeks i think, and survived she has a small trace of autism and was in the NICU for a LONG time, but now shes 7 and healthy!

  • MomBbabygirl009, I doubt that that is true, I looked it up and the earlest baby ever born and surviive was 21 1/2 weeks.

  • yes ive heard 20 weeks you have 90 % chance, they will be in the nicu for a very long time and may have some issues down the road but i believe its possible

  • Anon whoever told you the 90% chance of survival at 20 weeks was full of it.. Less than half of babies born earlier than 25 weeks survive. I think the earliest surviving baby was born at 22 weeks and even then that was a record case.
