Would you be worried if a nine month old wasn't crawling?

If she was scooting on her knees, but not actually crawling or getting around very well?

  • Not at all. Some go straight to walking. I have 3 friends all whos kids are almost ten momths old. One just started crawling, one started a couple weeks ago, and one isnt even close to crawling. Its so normal. 9.5 months is the average age they crawl. They can crawl as late as 16 months, or newver at all and still be perfectly healthy. Dont worry mama :)

  • Noooo..I wouldn't worry about that. My daughter never really crawled..she did this one knee, one foot scoot thing, lol. And I watched a baby from the time he was 3 months old and hes' 14 months now and just started scooting on his belly at about 11 months, give or take a couple weeks.

  • May daughter didn't crawl until the day before her first birthday. She was walking (unassisted) at 14 months. I believe the biggest reason she crawled later is that she absolutely hated to be on her tummy, so she was slow to develop the strenght to push herself up. Family members were more concerned than I was . . . she is a beautiful 10 year-old award winning dancer now.

  • All kids develop their skills at their own paces. Mine was always very laid back about the physical skills.. "why crawl when I can be carried?". She was using complete sentences before her first birthday. I have a nephew who was pushing himself across the floor on his face by the time he was 3-4 months old, but was still hardish to understand at two and a half.. It just depends on their temperaments and interests, I think. If your child is meeting most developmental milestones in about the reight timeframe, I wouldn't worry.

  • Crawling is not a milestone. What matters is getting from point a to point b someway, even if by a butt scoot.

If you use them, avoid exersaucers and use the floor more generously if you don't already.
