  • Canada is considered a socialist country. I don't see couples being told how many kids they should have.

  • China is a communist country. To give an example about the government power "they can kill you for reading a book not authorized by the govt."

  • No. Canada is not a socialist country, it has a mixed econony of public and private sectors like the US, the UK and other European countries, Japan.....most countries . China has a population policy to control what was a burgeoning crisis of the population growing at too fast a rate in relation to economic growth so that even basic food and health needs could not be met. There is no reason for other countries to do this but we see the same problem in the middle east where population growth has outstripped the capacity of governments to provide for them , resulting in massive unemployment, especially of young people. An underlying cause of political instability there.

  • No. Why do you ask? Name the socialist countries controlling population growth.

  • China  approximately 35.9% of China's population is currently subject to the one-child restriction.

India The national family planning program launched in 1951 was the world's first governmental population stabilization program. By 1996, the program had been estimated to have averted 168 million births.

Iran In 1993 Parliament passed legislation withdrawing food coupons, paid maternity leave, and social welfare subsidies after the third child. Birth control classes were required before a couple could get married. Dozens of mobile teams were sent to remote parts of the country to offer free vasectomies and tubal ligations

  • Of course, times have changed in these countries--some leaders allowing more "permissive" child birth rates...but what HAS been implemented and gone away, CAN be implemented once again.

I think the message to citizens in those countries, is whatever the leaders decide, becomes law. You do NOT have the freedom to do as you please, like we do in America--yet a certain segment of the US population would LIKE for us to adopt such draconian measures!!

Although, in reading some of the countries historical laws on population control--some of them weren't all that far fetched! Like the one that limited food stamps and social services programs after the 3rd child. Bash on! LOL :o)
