having problems getting 4 year old to stinky in potty

my 4 year old boy has been pee pee trained since he was 20 months old but have not had full success with stinkying in the potty.he will stinky a little bit in his pants several times a day for 2 to 3 days before he actually goes a normal amount.when he goes the normal amount we get that in the potty but only after making him go to the bathroom.having to clean his underwear several times a day for that 2 to 3 days before he actually goes is very aggravating not only for us but for him too.he never goes to the potty to stinky without us telling him .doctors keep trying laxatives and stool softners but they don't really help and he has to drink 6 ounces of fluids at one time to take them and he doesn't drink that much at a time.i really don't know what else to do this is starting to become very stressful.if anybody has any advice it would be very appreciated.thanks. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • You could try bananas, oatmeal, and granola bars; they are natural stool softeners. You could use the bananas to make fruit smoothies. Also, make sure he is getting enough vitamin C; sodium ascorbate is a buffered form of vit C that comes in a powder form; bowel tolerance (loose stool) will occur when he has had enough.

  • any particular reason why you can't say poop...considering lots of things stink, poop doesn't always have a smell...and poop always means poop.

  • uhm....i dont know how you feel about this, but when its that time for him to go (for us, dd would hide in a corner, or just kinda have this look about her when she was trying to poop in her pants), why not take him to the potty and sit there with him until he goes. tell him, 'we dont stinky on (whatever character underwear he's wearing), they dont like to be messy'...that worked wonders for us. she felt bad elmo got dirty, lol! i would just watch him like a hawk for several days. take him to the potty each time he gets that look. i think if you do that consistently, he will be going stinky in the potty in no time.
