Doing a camping-in-the-backyard-sleep over birthday party for our 7&10 yr. old...any suggestions on activities?? PIOG

We are on a TIGHT budget, so we desided each of our boys could invite 1 friend for a sleepover.
We're gonna do a camping theme, and sleep in a tent in the backyard, have a fire for smores, and catch fire flies.....but what are some other activities that might be camping related? Any ideas, mamma's ??? :-)

  • geo cahing is like a treasure hunt, you go onto the geocahe website and type in your zipcode, it comes up with coordinates you put into your gps and go there. you have to search for the geocache in the coodinates. it could be a box hidden or anything that you would not normally think to look at or in and there is things in it usually a paper that you write your names on and its got tons of tons of peoples names on it! everyone who finds it puts their name down and puts it back in the hidden spot. sometimes there is gifts or traveling coins from around the world in them. the thing is if you take something you put something in. you would be suprised at how many people do it, and how many are in your neighborhood! when i first looked into it there was 500 in just my moms neighborhood! they have far ones like ones you must hike a few miles to find, or they have short ones like on the side of buildings or in your park! It is a fun

  • Send them on a scavenger hunt through the yard and surrounding area (if it's cool with the neighbors). Have them bring back a leaf from this tree, piece of bark from that one, stuff like that.
Or, you can hide things around outside and give them the first clue leading to the second, have a clue with the second thing leading to the third and so on and let the prize at the end be figuring out a puzzle to do something like the smores.
