  • Once upon a child is a great place to go if you have one in your area. I used to shop there but now I mostly just sell my daughters stuff that she has outgrown to them. Look to see if you have a Carter's outlet store in your area. All of the clothes are brand new and same price as most childrens thrift stores. Also, look at garage sales. You can usually find some amazing deals at them, just make sure you check the clothes for stains etc. I don't think there is anything wrong with going to thrift stores, as long as the clothes are washed before the baby wears them.

  • Absolutely!! You could spend $50 in a thrift store and have an entire wardrobe. The one in my area carries all kinds of designer brands too and alot still with tags! You just have to look. I have 2 children (ages 7 and 19 months) and my oldest daughter is a tom boy and very rough on clothing. If I shop at Walmart to save a buck, the quality is not so great so they get trashed quickly. At the thrift shop I can buy her Old navy, which is of better quality, and not feel bad when she trashes them because I spent $2 on it. Also, it takes longer for her to destroy these clothes. I even got all of my maternity clothing at the thrift shop. Why pay so much money for something you wear for a few months?

  • I'm an adoptive mom and have bought lots of my son's stuff at thrift stores. I also go to yard sales, and now, I often buy stuff of Ebay, because I don't take Jacob out as much.
Always make sure that the thrift stores you buy from appear clean, bug and rodent free, and wash everything in hot water, with dreft detergent.

The money we've saved is almost enough to pay for our next child's adoption! Also, Jacob looks great in Baby Gap, Carhart jackets, Old Navy, and even baby Dior. We also bought sheets, blankets, and much more.

Never buy a mattress from a thrift store for a baby. Always buy them, and teething toys new.

  • I dont shop anywhere for clothes but thrift stores. Why buy brand new when you get clothes that are just as good for a fraction of the price? I got both my daughters (2 year old and unborn) summer and winter WARDROBES at thrift stores. Yard sales are great too!! Ill bet the only new things she has is a shirt or 2. But thats because they were on sale at the store. There is absolutely nothing wrong with or shameful about shopping at thrift stores. I think its smarter because the money you save could be spent else where like on groceries or paying off your car or something.

  • Most of my sons clothes come from thrift stores. We found him a brand new still had the tags on it Old Navy coat for $20. Why pay a lot of money for something brand new when you can get it cheaper at a thrift store & it still looks nice. I even go to yard or garage sales that people have around the neighborhood for some of his clothes. Of course he gets brand new clothes from like Kohl's too but it's so much cheaper to get them used.

  • Oh yes thrift store and FREEcycle is the way to go. FREEcycle is a form of trading. If you have something you don't want you post an email and someone that wants it will email you back and make arrangements to come pick it up and take it way for free. At the same time if people have something that don't want they make an email and you can email them back and if they choose you you can go to their house and pick it up for FREE!! Just this week I picked up a whole garbage bag of like new clothing (some of it still had tags) for my daughter for FREE! Thanks to freecycle!! To see if there is a group near you check out www.freecycle.org.
