How do I get my son to poop in the potty???

I am getting SOOOOOO frustrated! My son is almost 4 and tells me he CAN'T poop in the potty. He has been using the potty to pee for quite a while. Of course, he stands to pee. When I try to sit him on the potty, he has a fit and will tense his body so I can't get him on. Any advice??

  • here are some different techniques from professionals that i think might help

Basically my son learned by watching daddy and his cousin who is 6 months older then him. Having a kid around that is a step ahead really helped because my son always wanted to do what his cousin did.
    Good luck

  • My son did the exact same thing, it was awful! I know exactly what you are going thru. Just think of it this way, they cant hold it forever, and they will have to sooner or later. My son would always cry out when he felt like he had to go. I would put him on the potty then and let him sit there. for a few times he wouldn't go so after a few minutes I'd take him off. Usually we were back on in 5 minutes. Eventually he went and then knew it wasn't as bad as he thought. This took a while tho. Its a long, frustrating day, but it will happen. I think I have read or heard that boys just have a harder time w/ pooping in the potty, so this is common. Good luck and hang in there!

  • Most men wont do this, but he needs to be in there watching daddy poop. Some people think it's weird (i think it's weird if people thinnk it's weird) But, studies show that boys potty train better if they see their daddy doing it. Any time your DH has to pood, have your son sit on his potty next to him even if he does not have to poop. This works wonders, seriously.....

  • M & M's baby! Tell him if he goes in the potty, he'll get however M & M's for his age. But no M & M's any other time. Worked like a charm for both my girls..Eventually he'll forget about the M & M's....
