Is it really that bad to let your child have a TV in their room?

We're moving, a friend gave us a used TV. DD wants it in her room SO BAD so that she can watch movies in bed on the weekends. She is 8 years old & so far is doing a great job convincing me it's the right thing to do...LOL. Thought i'd see what y'all think. I feel if i regulate TV time, it should not be that big of a deal right?

  • I think as long as it is just for movies or video games then it is fine. I think it is too much when the kid has cable hooked up in their room at such a young age.

  • Nope. I think it's a good thing if it's controlled and they know the channels they aren't supposed to watch.

  • We won't put one in our kids rooms. In a play room, fine... but not in the bedroom.

  • My kids have always had a TV. We shut it off at bedtime and unplug it. They are allowed to use it in their rooms while they are awake. It hasn't been turned on in months unless I am cleaning their room. I don't think it is a big deal as long as she is not just sitting in their all the time watching it.

  • My kids have one. They only watch at night before bed. I like it. It makes bedtime much easier for me.

  • I like only using it for DVD's idea. I think i'll do that...I won't even hook up the cable, GREAT idea!

  • I think movies for kids that young should be a family activity. I you watch in bed with her then it's ok.
