What kind of wine do you serve with salmon?

We made some salmon last night and ended up drinking some cab with it. It was good, but I was kind of looking for something that didn't overpower the salmon. Since it was just DH and I it wasn't a big deal (I love cabernet), but I was wondering what other people liked to drink with their salmon. Any suggestions?

  • The old rules are kind of gone with food, although fish traditionally pairs with white, a salmon could really take a lighter red pretty well. If you prefer a red, a sangiovese would be nice, all though personally, I prefer a pinot grigio.

  • You could serve a light red wine like pinot noir. It would have to be a light red though.

  • Fish and White Wines work well together. I prefer a dry chardonnay--clenses the palate, doesn't ruin the taste of the fish! LOL :o)

  • Rose. Try the Cline or the Estancia. Both excellent with an oily fish like salmon!

  • any white wine sounds good.... i think red wine would be too overpowering with the strong taste of the salmon.
