  • It doesn't, it's all in the interpretation.

  • I don't think it does, but masterbation to the thoughts of say, having sex with a man/woman other than your husband or wife is sin because it is adultery. It's stated in more than one place, but the most obvious would be in the ten commandments. "You shall not commit adultery." Exodus 20:14. Even masterbating to another man/woman is adultery, see "You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery; but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matthew 5:27-28.

  • it is never explicitly stated. it is completely up to interpretation.

  • I think it is one of those things chauked up to interpretation.

  • is it?

Answer by rileymommy at 2:41 PM on Jun. 24, 2010

  • it doesnt. the most common verse used against masturbation is in Gen 38 about Odon letting his seed spill on the ground instead of inside his new wife (who was married to his brother) b/c he didnt want to get her pregnant. there are also verses about keeping yourself pure and not lusting over others, but its all interpretation of what pure & lust mean.

I heard a sermon on that passage once...

Answer by preacherskid at 2:46 PM on Jun. 24, 2010

  • The bible never comes out and says "Masturbation is wicked".
Even the passage that Preacherskid mentions isn't about masturbation. It is about Onan, how is to bed his brother's wife to produce a child, instead he "spilled his semen on the ground".....he pulled out before he finished. The Lord found it wicked and put him to death.
    Genesis 38: 8-10.

  • It never Directly says it, but the passage about lusting etc. It is all in your interpretation. As for DH and I, we believe that sex, in all forms(even mastrbation) is a sacred gift. To be shared with each other, none else.
