What do you think of this?

This is from a Canadian magazine that was talking about the global economy and how the government is handling paying for stimulus packages etc..

"By the way, where does the government get the money to fund all these immensely useful programs? According to a Fox News poll earlier this year, 65 per cent of Americans understand that the government gets its money from taxpayers, but 24 per cent think the government has “plenty of its own money without using taxpayer dollars.” You can hardly blame them for getting that impression in an age in which there is almost nothing the state won’t pay for. "

I'm shocked that so many people don't realize that the governments money comes from taxing the people!

  • 24%? That's a quarter of the population! 1 in 4 Americans are that dumb? That explains a lot about the "let the government pay for it" attitude.

  • I'm surprised it is that low! People view the "government" as a person instead of as a system or organization. It has become this monster entity that seems to have a life of its own. When you read the posts on here, you see people blaming the government for this or that. There seems to be a disconnect that it is the people we elect to oversee the government, judicial, executive, and legislative branches, who are the problem and not the government. Our government is not the problem. The people are. These same people have imposed on the education of our children and made sure the teaching of how the government works, civics class, has been eliminated from the curriculum so we have citizens who have no idea how the whole thing works.

  • LOL, no kidding mancos. I just figured we are getting all of our borrowed money from China. Tax payers will start to really pony up next year when the Bush tax cuts expire. For some reason, I am getting the feeling our economy hasn't seen anything yet. And it is being reported this morning that the GDP rose less than originally estimated last quarter. How long until we repeat the Greece effect?

actually it's both.. yes we are the problem for voting them in, however THEY are the problem as well for trying to push their own motives. The problem is, is that some people actually buy into the garbage they are trying to sell. Most of the people nominated are only people with some form of backing in the government already, so it's not like we have plenty of "chooses either" especially when a majority of people will vote for the "most popular" over who is actually the better candidate. (by most popular, it is typically whoever has the best sales pitch).

  • It comes from the whole "they don't have enough money? they can just print more!!! thing. If you don't study this stuff, you don't know, which is why it's so important NOT TO BE QUIET anymore.

  • What???  The government doesn't have it's own money????  What happened to that money tree planted in the middle of Michelle's garden?  The one that provided the money for Obama's "stash"?

Seriously, it is pathetic that so many people don't realize where Uncle SamBarry gets funds for all the various give-aways.  This shows that we really need to start educating our children and families.  And fast!
