  • either would be fine for me. i don't want to interfere with their adult lives, but i want to be there if they need me for my grandchildren!!! one hour is not too far. i could do that every day : )

  • I guess that's the point if they are within driving distance. :)

  • Where ever she wants to live. If I had to pick, I'd say the hour away. It can be hard for couples just starting out in married life if they have such close family living so close.

  • I'm fine with either or! I live 3 miles away from my I use to live 1500 miles away.

  • Move an hour away... I don't think it's ever a good thing to live to close to mom & dad... I am a firm believer in cutting those apron strings and letting them live their own life.

  • On next door for sure! I would not want my DD to not have me right there for her if she ever needed me!

  • An hour away would be perfect - far enough, but not too far! Newly married couples need time and space to find their own path. On a purely selfish level I know I'll want to be able to see my children and grandchildren, but I also think I'll want some alone time with my husband. An hour away just seems like a win-win for everyone.

  • Just seems like it would so nice to be able to sit down for a cup of coffee here and there. Couldn't do that an hour away. Just sayin...

  • my dd's friend had the perfect set up. Grandma lived in the middle and each of the daughters lived on either side with their families. Someone was always available to babysit. Even dd's friend. In case there was an emergency, someone was always there.

  • I want my children to live where they can get jobs and fulfill their career dreams. For my husband, that took us 7 hours away from our parents. But my sister lives less than 2 hours away from me. Would I want my child next door, probably not. I don't know if I want them even in the same town as I don't want them assuming that I'm a free babysitting service which I see too many children doing with their parents.
