Potty training at 14 months?

My son is 14 months old and just starting taking off his diaper in the last few days. Undoing one or both velcro fasteners, or taking it off completely. Does this mean he's just discovered how to take off something else..he likes to pull at his clothes occasionally, or does this mean he might be ready to start the potty training process?

  • Most kids do this, now if want to sit on a potty that is a better clue. He is too young for potty training.

  • Can't say for sure. My DD is 19 months and has been doing this for a long time. We started potty training recently, but she keeps telling us after she's gone instead of before. We're going to keep on trying, but it's not working out as well as we had hoped. One thing that helped with the taking off of the diaper is switching to training pants. They can still take them off, but not as easily, and even if they do take them off, they have to pull them down like under pants.

  • Most kids go through the stage of taking things off it does not necessarily mean he is ready to potty train. Has he shown any other signs of wanting to use the potty? If not he is most likely just exploring new things that he has learned :)
