Do you or would you leave you're almost 10yr old son home alone for about 5hrs?

  • Would depend on the 10yo.  My 10yo...hell no.  I can't trust her for even 20 minutes.  She is into everything.  When my son is 10...maybe but I'd have to be desperate to leave him for 5 hours.  Maybe an hour or so.  I trust him and when I leave the house he's in "charge" which my oldest hates (he's almost 9).  My dad is home but usually locked in his room when I go out.  The kids basically fend for themselves with my dad as backup if anything happens (which it hasn't).  They are also allowed to go to the park alone and roam the neighborhood (within a couple blocks of our house).
When I was 10 I not only stayed home alone but babysat my younger brother, cooked on the stove for him and made sure we both did our homework and cleaned up the house.  Good times.

  • NO... NO... NO!

I wouldn't leave my already 11 year old home for more that 30 minutes. Kids that age need someone to watch them.

  • I am not sure. I might if I lived close to someone who could come check on him. I think I didn't start leaving my daughter home until she was about 13 or so. She locked herself in the house and I called her constantly. I had neighbors I could call though if something came up.

  • No. From a legal stand point, you can't, I don't think. But I wouldn't anyway.

  • No, never ever ever. Have you ever spent time with a young boy!? Boys live life specifically to make mischief. In my brothers life time they have all lit something major on fire, blown up at least one kitchen appliance, each of them broken at least one bone ranging from a nose to a back, and attempted to light their farts on fire which resulted in scorched wall paper and second degree burns on their @sses. All of those things occured when there was no adult supervision, so no I would never leave my ten year old home alone, even if I just wanted to go to the grocery store for an hour.
