What would make you vote someone's answer down?

If you vote someone down is it just because you don't agree with what they said in their answer, or because they are being nasty or would it be some other reason?

  • if I thought they were being rude or insulting someone, but even then, it would have to be pretty bad for me to vote it down.

  • only way i would vote someones answer down was if they were being rude or nasty. just because i dont agree with them doesnt mean that it wasnt good advice/an answer.

  • It'd take an extreme amount of stupidity, or something really mean.

I imagine I'll use the "vote down" feature like I used the "report" button. I've only reported twice since joining CM, and both comments were so cruel they literally made me gasp aloud.

  • A bitchy answer will get voted down from me;)
I saw an answer today that got voted down. It wasn't bitchy at all, just honest. I thought that was too bad.

  • yea. that's true. very obvious wrong advice that could be potentially dangerous. Not just a difference of opinion (like vaccines) but something like ..."give your child a hot bath if they have a fever of 104.3" would get a vote down.

  • i wonder if you get points for voting down an answer though and that will make people vote answers down just to get more points.
