  • I introduced water to my first daughter when she was 6 months old. As for juice, I waited until she was 15 months. With my second baby, I'm going to give her water when she's 6 months but I'll give her juice when she's 12 months old.

  • I started VERY small (2-3 oz) amounts of water with my kids in a sippy cup when they were 5-6 months old, so they could start to practice with it. At that age, they rarely got that much water out of it anyway.

  • Oh - for juice we didn't introduce until they were a year old, and even then only heavily diluted with water as a special treat.

  • I'm not a big fan of juice. I'd rather give a piece of fruit than juice. As far as water, technically they don't need it until a year old. Breastmilk or formula is fine until then. Though, we did start giving water with solids at 7 months old. No more than about 4 or 5 oz a day, though, because you don't want them to drink less BM or formula.

  • Babies don't need water. But 6 months or later you can give a little water with table food meals (skip the jar stuff and cereal). A breastfed baby especially has no need of water, so if they don't get any its not a big deal.
Juice is never needed. It's all the sugar with no fiber -- way too much. Avoid it as long as possible.

  • THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH AN OCCASIONALLY BOTTLE OF WATER THEY JUST DONT RECOMMEND IT BECAUSE IT FILLS THEM UP AND HAS NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE MY SON IS 8 MONTHS OLD NOW AND ON ESPECIALLY HOT DAYS I GIVE HIM A BOTTLE OF COOL WATER ONCE IN AWHILE JUST TO HELP COOL HIM DOWN

  • Juice & water aren't needed quite yet. I started my dd on juice when she was about 7 mo & water about 9 mo. She's still breastfed so the water's not really needed but there are times she's thirsty & I can't stop what I'm doing to nurse. Not hungry, just thirsty. Be careful w/ the juice you give, many aren't that nutritious. Check for 100% juice & low sugar, also most organic juices are much better & usually contain more nutrients.

  • When you start solids is a good time to start offering a small amount of water in a cup. Before then they will get enough water in their formula and/or breastmilk. No juice until 12 months, minimum.

  • I started water and juice around 5 months. My doc said i could start at 4 but i chose to wait a little. I only gave him like an ounce with each meal. And the juice was so diluted that it was barely even there..lol..My son is 1 today and i dont give him much juice. Just a little every few days with meals ;)
