  • A midwife is not an MD, she has had less training, but specializes in OBGYN care. They usually are more naturopathic, will do home births, natural births, etc. They are also cheaper. They can attend a birth like a doctor and prescribe medications.

  • It is hard to compare a midwife to a regular family doctor. Midwives specialise in pregnancy and childbirth. They are much more in-tune with women then a regular OB/GYN. OBs are  able to perform c-sections, and in my opinion that is the only difference. Midwives will create more natural births, and prescribe less medication while recommending natural remedies. Most often midwives listen to a woman, and help her have the perfect birth. They wont force inductions, or even pressure women into inductions. For childbirth, midwives are usually the best bet.

  • A midwife isn't a doctor at all. Midwives are advanced practice registered nurses with specialized training.

  • The widwife can do all that the Dr can do as long as there is no surgery. Typically these people do home births, but many OBs have them in their offices now.

  • personally i believe midwives care more about the mothers than doctors do. reason being midwives are going out a styles and they are paid less so obviously they arent really their for the money where as OB's get paid a lot so they really dont care as much. (not saying that they are bad).. but midwives are more about natural birth. they want the mother to be in a relaxed environment and to give a natural birth. they do not give dreams and the try to work around what the mother wants so that she feels very comfortable. OB's are good, but they job is to get the baby out ina healthy manner. i wanted to be a OB but then i feel that midwives just pay more attention to the mothers needs so yea

  • Which is better depends on what you would like out of your birth experience. Because of the overall reports and statistics, women using midwives have much higher satisfaction (safer birth outcomes). And yes, they can do the same things except the cesarean (the OB is the surgeon, not the normalo birth specialist).
