What makes food products kosher?

My dh and I have noticed the symbol for Kosher on products (one example is Orange juice) and was wondering what ingredients should not be in a product to make it Kosher and what exactly does Kosher mean when it comes the the Jewish belief?

We are Muslims and thought Jews would have to avoid pork products in foods like we do.

thanks for sharing.

  • Kosher meats are processed in essentially the same way as halal meats. People who keep kosher never eat dairy with meat. Foods that are certified as being kosher are produced with oversight by a specially trained Rabbi, called a mashgiach.
