Have you ever read another mom's comment in this section and thought, "I really wish people were required to take parenting classes before having children!!"?

I have!! This one is my "favorite":

"A 14 month old should be required to say 'please' and 'thank you'. Don't give them what they want until they do...even if they cry and have a tantrum, don't give in until they say it"

  • I feel that way at least 15 times a day!

Better yet I think people should have to prove they have some basic common sense to be a parent...

  • i think it should be a rule of thumb to read your question out loud to yourself before you post.

  • My favorite movie quote on parenting is Keanu Reeves in "Parenthood" Todd says "You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father.

Sums it up pretty well and it doesn't apply only to fathers.

  • I don't think it's really my place to judge who should and shouldn't have children. Plus, it's hard to measure someone's parenting abilities by a single question on Cafemom.

  • I don't see anything wrong with that, kids need to learn to be polite cuz now these days kids are way to rude.  You can't judge a person just by reading couple answers, sometimes they might mean one thing and your understanding it differently. Everybody has there own beliefs on how to raise there kids just cuz one of us don't agree with them don't mean they are a bad parent.

  • No, can't say I've ever thought that. Some answers I don't wuite understand where they are coming from and I may not agree with though, thats for sure.

  • yes, my favorites tend to include i want to be a friend to my child and don't want to make them cry. they can have their paci or bottle as long as they want. seriously, be parents!

  • I agree with butterflyblue19. I wouldn't be strict about it though and just not giving the child something because they don't know how to say please and thank you. It's a learning process.
