How Old do you think is Old enough?

How old do you think is old enough for a child to get a cell phone?

Me, I think it is when they are old enough that they are going anywhere on their own.

  • I will have one to give my dds to use once they start going places w/out me. It would be an emergency phone and they wouldnt be allowed to keep it for regular use until they have a job and can help pay for it.

  • It will depend. My oldest is 6, so we still have a while here. I think I will get my kids a cell phone once they become more independent and they start with after school activities, riding their bikes throughout the neighborhood, etc. It won't be until they are at least 10, most likely older than that.

  • My daughter got her first one when she was 11 (she walks to the library after school and there is a registered sex offender close by!)

  • i don't think age is so much a factor , i feel it depends on if you feel the child will be responsible enuff with it. I got my daughter a phone around 11 because i wanted her to be able to get a hold of her father or I no matter what. It was more for us than her i!!!

  • my girls are almost 3 and almost 4. i'm about to get them one.

before anyone jumps on me, i am a single mom... they go stay with their dad every once in a while. he doesn't have a phone, and i have no way to contact them otherwise. as well, he just moved about 2 hours away, so they'll be even further. i need to know they are safe.
