My 5 year DD doesn't want any baby brothers...did your kids have any preference when it comes to future siblings?

I'm not pregnant nor am I trying. Though I do hope to have a son someday (I have two girls). The dicussion came up because my cousin's 10 year old son is surrounded by girls: he has a 2 year old sister, my two girls (ages 4 and 5) and a 6 month old baby girl cousin as well. He desperately wants a boy cousin. He's been begging me to have a boy (even though I'm currently single and not planning to have a baby for at least 5 years) and asking his uncle and his girlfriend when they're going to have a baby. My 5 year old stated very seriously that she doesn't want a baby brother at all, she just wants another sister someday. I was just curious about other children having a preference over wanting a brother or sister.

  • When my 1st child was 4 I had another girl...she was so med at having a sister!! she wanted a brother! well she would not smile for any pictures, she tried smothering the baby even. She just hated having a sister! when the baby started crawling she finally came around and saw that a baby sister could be fun.

  • My ds always wanted a brother (he didn't get any sibs). When I was little, my mom was pregnant and I had a sister in mind, but got a brother. I didn't like him very much for a long time, lol....he's okay now (He's 48 and I'm 52)

  • My 4y/o DS always said he just wanted a baby brother, nothing else would do. But when I got pregnant, he said he would love a baby brother or a sister, and actually said he wanted both lol. Unfortunately it ended in miscarriage, but now I know next time that he's open to either.

  • My DD is 5 and I'm currently expecting number 2. She DESPERATELY wanted a little sister, apparently bothers aren't good for ANYTHING. She was even to the point of crying at the ultrasound when the 3D/4D tech said it was probably a boy (even though she didn't get a perfect shot), and she didn't want to even be there after that. She didn't even mention the baby for over 24 hours after that ultrasound.

She was REALLY upset at first, even going as far as suggesting girl names and holding out hope that it COULD still be a girl. But she got over it, We had our first u/s at the beginning of May and now she's really excited to have a brother. She asks me every day how her little brother is doing today lol.

I promise, your DD will get over it if she ends up with a brother. She's still young too, she will probably change her mind as she gets older.
