Dog bathes

How often do you need to give your dog a bath? We have an outside dog and I normally only give her 2 bathes a year. I know she probably needs more, but how often?

  • my father in law has never bathed his out side dogs, he says thats what rain and a water is for. but our inside dogs get bathed once a month or more. if there really smelly so sniff her see if she smells bad enugh that not even she could live with her self.

  • We bathe our inside dog every 2-3 weeks. Any more than that and she starts to stink. Our outside dog, wow... not that often. Maybe 3-4 times a year. But we spray him with the water hose all summer (because it's so hot) - he loves that! You've never seen a happier dog than when we come around with the hose, him and the kids all trying to get soaked.

  • I bathe my dog once a month, sometimes more depending on what all they do while they are outside playing. An outside dog though, I would bathe them more frequently only because they will get more dirty than a house dog.

  • It depends on the breed, I think. Some dogs have different kinds of fur/coats and have different grooming needs.

My dog, though, because she's mostly an inside dog who plays outside, gets a bath at least once a month.

  • you should not bathe your dog more than 1 time a week because it will dry there skin out. but your dog should really be given a bath every 2-3 weeks. if your dog has long hair please brush it also so it does not get matted!!!! when i worked in the grooming salon i saw dogs with such bad mats they had ma gets under them. also if the dog is already matted get them out before wetting the dog because the water just makes them tighter.

  • We try for once to twice a month and maybe more depending on what they got into. Like if we took them to the forest preserve, they get a bath that day.

  • I used to bathe my dog at least once a week if not more. (indoor dog plus farm)

Less now that he's not on the farm. If you're using gentle shampoos and not DAWN or something, i'ts not bad.

  • we have two hound dogs... bath em about once every two weeks, if not once a week, but no more than that.. but they're inside dogs. if they were outside, holy god. they would be sooo stinky. hounds smell bad anyway though haha.

  • I worked as a dog bather during college and was told that it's really not good to bathe a dog more than once a month to once in 6 weeks if you can help it... once every 2 or 3 months is better. Bathing too often strips the coat and skin of necessary oils drying them out and making them less water resistant.

I have two inside dogs and we try not to bath them more than once a season lol... so every 3 months. If they get especially dirty then I'll bathe them, but otherwise I'll just wipe them down with some between bath wipes or spray them with a nice smelling coat conditioner.

  • We bathe our lab every 2 weeks or so (indoor dog) because otherwise she really starts to smell and she starts scratching a lot.
