Do your kids misbehave more when they know you aren't feeling well?

I don't remember doing this as a kid. I remember if my mom wasn't feeling well I tried to be on my best behavior.

My kids know I'm tired and sore (I'm 37 weeks pregnant) so they are really acting up. They know I can't jump up and stop them and I'm just too exhausted to keep up punishments and they are completely taking advantage of that. As soon as I leave a room they are into something.

And I'm not talking toddlers/little kids. They are 10, 8 1/2, 7 1/2 and 4. I told them to clean up the living room (I can barely even bend over any more) and when I went to use the bathroom they all went outside to play and were mad when I made them come back in and finish. A few minutes later I went in another room and I heard the front door slamming because they all went back outside. That went on all day. I'm so tired now from chasing them around. I didn't even eat until 8pm today.

  • I don't think they actually behave worse when I am sick, but I think that what I would consider 'little things' on a normal day would really annoy me on a day when I don't feel well. I don't think they change very much, but I think my tolerance decreases in proportion to how sick and/or tired I feel on any given day.

  • The opposite, actually. She's so sweet when she's knows I'm feeling poorly.

Good luck with all that, though!

  • No My son doesnt act up when I am sick or not feeling he is actually really compassionate and sensitive.. Its when I am on the phone, that this little Munchin comes out, because I am not giving him my undivided attention.. He just gets busy.

  • Mine are generally pretty good regardless, but when I am sick, they are very compassionate ;) It's sweet how they want to take care of mommy.

  • My kids act up when i am not feeling well. I am their primary care giver and I think they feel neglected when I am not able to devote the usual amount of attention.

  • No, they are extra nice when I don't feel well. I was super cranky yesterday for no good reason and they were awesome.
