Sleeping too much??

My 4 month old sleeps a lot she'll take 2 or 3, 1.5-3 hr naps a day and a night she goes to sleep around 12 sleeps till around 10 wakes up and eats and will go back to sleep till 1 or 2. She's not unhealthy or anything she's always happy and only cries when she's hungry I just wonder if she's sleeping too much & if that may be a sign of something wrong.

  • I doubt it, my son has always slept alot too from day one after bringing him home. He slept at least 10 but usually 12-13 hours a night every single night of his life(he's almost 2 now). he used to take a 1-3 hour nap as well every afternoon but since he turned about 16 months, does not nap anymore.

  • Oooh, complain too much about this and someone will come and burn down your house (when they've got enough sleep to be able to read the small print )

Some children(humans) sleep when they are stressed. If you think your baby is sleeping to avoid being overwhelmed with stress you have a serious problem that will absolutely interfere with her growth. If she's growing normally, spends a number of periods of time each day in the quiet-alert state (looking around, checking out the world, relaxed and not moving around much) ... and is otherwise healthy, she probably just needs more sleep (at the moment, please don't get all delusional about her sleeping this way 'forever' or anything) than 'average' --whatever that might be.

If she's not gaining well, or losing weight, or sleeping instead of dealing with the crying/not eating/too much stress, she needs to be seen by a professional.
