maybe this is a dumb question, but...isn't petroleum jelly just oil? refined oil?

  • Yeah, pretty much. Which is just one of the reasons I don't use it...

    I don't use anything with Mineral oil either for the same reason.

  • i guess from the question earlier about people swimming in the waters with the oil spill, is that any different from putting vaseline on your lips?
    we quit using beauty products with petroleum years ago, because i thought it was gross to use oil like that on our skin and hair.
    it does look gross swimming in those waters too.

    My great grandmother use to eat....yes EAT....a tablespoon of petroleum jelly a day. She said it helped her stay regular....but I remember when I was a small kid watching her do it and gagging.

  • Yes it is. Mineral oil (baby oil) is too. All petrochemicals should be avoided like the plague.
