3 Bumps

My doctor doesnt seem worried....

But I am. I am 34 weeks pregnant. My baby is only weighing 4 1/2 pounds. I had told some ppl this & they were shocked. This is making me a little worried, should I be? MY doctor didnt say anything about it yesterday @ my visit.

  • since a baby will gain up to 1/2 lb every week, it will be approximately 6.5 lbs at 40 weeks. Also ultrasounds are not 100% accurate. Mine was supposed to be at the high end of 9 lbs and she was 7.5. Chances are that your due date is off and doc will let you go over slightly to compensate.

  • baby should gain about 1/2 lb a week until 40 weeks- that would put baby at 7 1/2 lbs (avg weight). also, it is impossible for drs to tell how much a baby weighs by looking at/measuring/etc. your stomach. Do not be worried! The main things that babies do in the last few weeks is practice breathing and also gain weight. Try to relax and congratulations!

  • I would tell your dr your concers, but I have to agree with the other posts. Your little one will gain some more weight before the big day

  • Ultrasounds are soooo off. They told me at 36 weeks my son was 8lb 11oz. They induced me at 39 weeks and since he was 8.11 at 36 weeks and they gain about a half a pound a week he was estimated at 10lb 3oz. He was 8lb 8oz at birth. Way off! And as the other ladies said. A half pound a week puts baby at 7.8lb. Totally fine weight. Average and perfectly healthy. I wouldnt worry a bit :)

  • IF you have an ultrasound (which is optional) and get a weight estimation, remember that it's truly a guess. Some guesses are accurate, some are well-calculated, some get lucky, and some are just way off.

You never know the size of your baby until you deliver and out the baby on the scale.
    Best wishes!

  • I wouldn't worry about it. I was told that I was going to have a 10 pound baby and he was only 8.6. Granted he was 2 weeks early but even at 1/2 a lb gain a week he would only have been 9.5.
