What are the best walking shoes for a baby trying to walk?

My grand daughter just turned a year and she is starting to walk, but her ankles seem to be week. I think with some really good walking shoes will support her ankles and she will be able to walk better.

  • Stride Rite has awesome walking shoes. They are supportive around the ankle but flexible on the bottoms. They have different styles in them and also sandals.

  • bare feet are the best(inside) and a soft athletic shoe for outside

  • I agree with Stride Rite if you want ankle support. I like Robeez, but they don't have any support.

  • My ped says bare feet is best. But when my kids did need shoes for outdoors, we liked Stride Rite best. They have wide widths etc. Plus employee's that are trained to make sure your child has a well fitting shoe.

  • NO SHOES when learning to walk. Any shoes, even high top ones, will only weaken her supposed weak ankles. Bare feet are the absolute best thing for learning to walk properly. The only time shoes are needed are for if she will be walking outside...and even then, she only needs really soft soled shoes. They have leather ones for that.

  • I agree with pp. For walking inside the best is to go bare foot. I was always told that Stride Rite had excellent shoes for lo's but we didn't have one when DS was learning to walk. His first real pair of shoes were pumas. I still have them.
