Your thoughts?

Most people when asked....what is the opposite of love will answer hate.

I believe the opposite of love is indifference, not hate.

Supposing that is true, what then do you think is the difference between hate and indifference?

  • Indifference implies a lack of caring. Hate can be a passion; a strong emotion that is caring in a negative way. JMO

  • Hate involves strong emotion and plenty of dedicated thought, which is what makes it more similar to love.

  • BAsed upon your response, I would say that you were asking which was worse, hate or indifference. But you asked what the opposite of Love is and I think it's Hate.

I do agree that indifference would be worse but it's not opposite.

  • Good answers. My reasoning behind this is for instance, you have ever had your heart broken. It would almost be better to have the person yelling, calling names, and showing emotion. Then at least you know you are worth that much of a response. The ex-lover that is indifferent, just plain ole doesn't care in any way shape or form. To me, that is worse than hate. Sick to want to be treated in an abusive manner, but indifference is so cold, so empty...I think it is worse than hate.
