MILK QUESTION....

OK SO MY SON HAD HIS LAST BIT OF FORMULA TUESDAY MORNING. I READ THAT THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF MILK THEY SHOULD HAVE IS ATLEAST 2 3/4 CUPS, PLUS ANOTHER CUP OF ANOTHER LIQUID. HE WONT DRINK THAT MUCH MILK. HE WILL DRINK 2 CUPS OF LIQUID TOTAL AND THATS IT. IS THIS OK? WHAT CAN I DO?

  • My son's ped recommended he drink no more than 2 cups of milk/day, and then have a 3rd dairy source (yogurt, cheese, etc)

  • As long as he is continuing to have several wet diapers/potty breaks a day, he is fine.

  • I have never heard of that. I just gave my kids milk when they asked for it. But I did breastfeed. I have never heard of a "requirement" or anything. I would ask his pediatrician if you are really concerned withit.

  • Actually, your child doesn't even need milk at all...and the recommended amount of DAIRY is 16oz, meaning if he has cheese, yogurt, pudding...then he really doesn't need any more milk. He can get Calcium and Vitamin D in nutrient rich vegetables. He really just needs water to drink after he turns one.

  • How much fluids does he need in a day total? He went from drinking 21oz of formula and a 7oz cup of water/juice a day, to now about 14 oz total liquids. I just want to make sure he is getting enough to drink.

  • Im sure i could get him the calcium and vitamin d in plenty of other ways. I just dont want to dehydrate him. He can have his cup whenever he wants it. And i make sure its right next to him at meal and snack times..

  • Your LO doesn't really need milk. As long as he gets enough good fats and calcium from other sources, you can give him water all day and he'll be fine!

  • Have you found out why he is not drinking that much milk?? Maybe he is teething, he may not want to suck on bottom that much. Try gave him in another source such as in a cup. 14 oz liquid in a day, Your baby should be drinking 3-4 bottles of milk at 12 months.
