What were they thinking?

So read read our LO's a bedtime story tonight. It was one of those Little Golden Books, The Jolly Barnyard. Well it's Farmer Brown's b-day ad he's giving all his animals a special treat, and the animals want to give him something back. When it gets to the turkey this is what it says:
"Gobble!" said the turkey. "As well as I am able,
I'll decorate his thanksgiving table."

lol. This is suppose to be a childrens book! I couldn't help but laugh though.

  • children's books can be weird. there is a rhyme in my dd nursery rhymes it's called: I love little pussy.
    it goes:

i love little pussy, her coat is so warm,
and if i don't hurt her, she'll do me no harm.
i'll sit by the fire and give her some food,
and pussy will love me, because i am good.

    it's about a cat...OMG!

  • LOL that is so funny! I think they try to think of parents when they write them as well as children because the more amused you get about stupid stuff like that then your more willing to read it to your kids!

  • most children stories and nursery rhymes are morbid or just plain sick. i caught hell with my kids' speech therapist cause my kids dont know a lot of nursery rhymes or some of those old stories cause i refuse to read it to them. i taught a few nursery rhymes that i thought was appropriate and change the words on the ones i thought were sick.

  • Most of the nursery rhymes crack me up. How bout Rock a Bye Baby? Why is the bough breaking & the cradle falling? Talk about some trauma! We have a couple of songs she really likes that I've changed for her like 6 Little Ducks. The fact there were "fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too" bothered me so its "6 little kids that I once knew, black ones, white ones, brown ones too...
