What can I expect regarding my son's perforated eardrum?

I accidentally perforated my son's eardrum with a Q-tip. He has been to the doctor and will see an ENT next Tuesday to consult on having the hole patched. If anyone has any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it. What can I expect to have happen with the procedure of patching the hole?

BTW, I swear to God I will NEVER use a Q-tip on him EVER again!!!!!

  • my son had a burst eardrum from an infection. blood and pus came out, he had a fever for 3 days (pretty low) and then he was fine. he never experienced any hearing loss. we used earplugs in the bath for 6 weeks after that.
i don't know anything about the repair process. i would question weather it was necessary or not. if it can heal on its own, it seems like that would be better.
good luck with what ever happens!
