Why? How is it possible?

... that the government can spend billions to bail out banks that misuse the funds, billions on an endless war, yet cannot seem to find a way to make sure the American people can survive in the economic debacle that the government allowed to happen?

  • I agree with Rhonda- we will be forced to go back to simpler times. Multi-generations living under 1 roof. Maybe it's not such a bad thing.

  • Because the government is not allowed to regulate how we the people spend our money. So any money that they give us will be frittered away on things like bills, or other needs, instead of wants. Wants will help build our economy by keeping our stores open & the factories full of workers.
We have government run shelters, and food banks. Food stamps are available as are jobs- low paying back breaking ones true but jobs none the less and other services are out there. Basically the government has set things up to assist the general populace not take care of them. If we wanted to the government could do a "Bread & Circuses" like the Roman Empire did, but instead is hoping to instill and jump-start the old fashioned American Ingenuity that our Great Great Grandparents had.

  • The government created it and fed it to the people. Cheap loans, cheap credit, no-doc, interest-only.... It was unsustainable.

The government is still doing it. Cash for Clunkers and cash for first-time homeowners are good examples. It helps a few people, but cost is enormous, and neither worked/is working to improve the economy. As soon as funding stopped, sales dropped. It only delays the inevitable while costing the American people an enormous amount of money that our grandchildren will be paying back long after we are all dead.
