My dd opens her eyes underwater in the pool EVERYTIME she swims...she does it a lot...now her eyes are irritated...

What should I do, does it hurt her eyes...should I get visine to put in them....leave them alone.

Discourage her from doing this? They were really irritated today we swam a lot.

  • Actually, the chlorine has nothing to do with it. The Ph does... THAT is what makes her eyes irritated. Use some eye drops to restore her natural Ph and she'll be just fine. It won't her her any if you don't, no damage done, just some irritation.

  • I always buy good, colorful goggles for the kids every year. The kids have worn goggles since they were three, and now they won't swim without them. If she will wear them, goggles will really help. And I agree with ObbyDobbie about the drops to restore the Ph, that would help as well.

  • This is great water safety! You are fortunate that your daughter is comfortable opening her eyes under water.

  • goggles are good. her eyes should recover. swimmers that spend a lot of time in the pool can get permanent retina damage.
is this your own pool? there are chlorine free alternatives!!!!

  • It's definitely the chlorine in the water if it's a pool. I like clear eyes because of the different ones and it works well.
