  • Yesterday, we put her dora tent over the air vent on the floor, sat down and had a picnic in there. :-)
It was great, so cool, all that cold air confined to that tiny bottomless tent!
Other than that, we keep the ac at 70, eat a lot of popsicles, and go barefoot in the house.

  • Ah...our central air isn't working, so we put an air conditioner in DS's room and a fan blowing from DS's room into DD's room, and another air conditioner in our bedroom on the other side of the house...the bedrooms are cool, but the rest of the house is sweltering...we just eat a bunch of popsicles, and lay around, lol...and Ds has been wearing nothing but boxer-briefs for the last week, lol...

  • well in TX it got to be 116 last year, and with the humidity, A/C is a must!!! Popsicles, go to places where there is AC (like the mall or the store) just to walk around, and keep activities to a minimum in the hottest part of the day, usually 10 or 11-3.

  • Before we got the window a/c units, we used our ceiling fans and drank lots of water. We also would hang out a lot on our screened sun porch; It has a ceramic floor that stays cool for most of the day if we keep the bamboo blinds drawn to keep the sun out. DS also liked to splash in a pool and the dogs liked being hosed down.

  • Kiwi, I used to do that with the big fan in my room, use a chip clip to attach a sheet to it, and then put something on the other end to hold it down and make a tent to play in.

You can also get a sprinkler or small pool to play in. Or take the kids to a mall or even the kids section of the book store for the day to play in and be cool without costing you anything.

  • Fans, and light clothing are GREAT, but my favorite thing is running through the sprinklers!! We don't have any this year but I sure wish we did!
