Video Baby monitors

Are the video monitors really worth the price? I am about to move my baby girl into her room to sleep in her crib rather in her pack n play next to my bed. I am thinking about getting a video monitor but they seem so pricey. What is the best one for not alot of money.

  • I thought they were pretty useless because it's not like you can see your baby when you're sleeping also. I got an Angelcare monitor that had an alarm that would go off if he stopped breathing.

  • I never had one but our rooms are close so I didnt worry to much about it. If your rooms aren't close or the rooms are upstairs and you will be downstairs a lot I would say its worth it. Other then that I would say no not worth it.

  • If it's loud enough and higher tech in 2011, then I will invest in one:)

  • Useless gadget especially at your daughters age. She shouldn't be alone long enough or that far away to justify it, since you'll need to feed or change her at least once at night.

  • I wouldn't think that you'd need it. Baby monitors for when you are out of EARshot are good because if you HEAR the baby, you'll run w/o looking at a monitor. Plus you can't take it everywhere, so what's the point? I'd think that they are a luxury item.

  • We had one a decade ago, VERY portable and to us it was well worth it.

I had an audio monitor for my mom when she was in end stage of cancer, and I tell you, I wished I'd had my video monitor instead at that time. The noises all sounded the same...including the evening she decided she needed to get out of bed to use the commode. I didn't know she was doing that till she fell down, and I had to tun to her neighbor for help to get her back up again. After that, I couldn't leave her for one second...I was too scared it would happen again.

  • I had received one as a gift, and the video part fades in and out constantly! Its super sensitive, and picks up all kinds of sounds. Im not sure if its just the model, but I would love to find one that actually works!
