Why do teen boys try not to smile?

I get so upset with my son, 14 yrs old, who walks around looking like he's mister tough guy when he's anything but. And in pictures he won't smile, I can't stand it!

  • Guys are like that I guess some feel they would look too girlish or gay if hey showed some teeth... IMO
Unless his teeth are bad and is embarrassed to show them. :/

  • My teenage son doesn't really care about how he looks, but he does smile. If you want to see him smile, do something funny or make a funny remark or even do a silly dance. It works for me.

  • It ruins the "macho" look lol

  • Because they're 'hard core' lol I think it's because teen boys aren't as cheery....

  • The same reason I hate to smile... It just doesn't look good... Teen boys are very self aware & most think their smiles make them look young or weird... so they don't do it.

  • I think Decker and message are right at least about mine.

  • Hmmm I don't know - my boys are always smiling unless they are pissed off, or my older son sometimes like to strutt around like he's a male model or something.
