UTI in natural bodies of water...does this happen to anyone else?

Every time I swim in any kind of lake or ocean, I get a urinary tract infection. I'm assuming it's because of all the bacteria that lives in natural bodies of water. It drives me crazy because my family loves to go to the lake and I can't be in the water with my kids. I've never known of anyone else to have this problem. Anyone ever hear of this?

  • It makes sense that the bacteria would be the problem. It is just unusual that it happens EVERY time! Have you talked to your doctor? Maybe try drinking 100% cranberry juice before and after the swim?

  • try urinating as soon as you get out of the water. Experts tell us to do that after sex to avoid UTIs, maybe it would help.
