What do you put in your salad?

When I make a garden salad, I use lettuce (of course), tomato, cucumber, olives, and onions. I have also been known to put feta cheese or blue cheese on top occasionally. I am bringing salad to a potluck, and was looking for some other ideas also. So when you make a salad, what do you add to it?

  • For myself: sliced radishes, snap/snow peas, chopped hard boiled egg, maybe some chopped turkey or chicken or ham, slices of cucumber, shredded carrots, sunflower seeds sometimes, maybe a little shredded cheese, a few crushed crackers on top.

For a potluck I make layered lettuce salad - put a nice layer of lettuce in the bottom of a pan/bowl, and on top put a layer of Miracle Whip or mayo, and a layer each of thawed frozen peas, crumbled bacon, onion, chopped celery, shredded cheese. You can add or omit other veggies - I prefer cukes over onions, and like to add chopped bell pepper.

  • I am not a big salad eater, but I LOVE fruit salad! I don't mind dried fruit salad either.

When I eat a 'normal' salad though I usually eat lettuce, slight tomatoes, cucumbers, croutons, cheese, and ranch. I will often eat a side of cottage cheese with it.
